Does not wearing a bra make your boobs saggy? and other things you didn’t know about your girls.
How much do you really know about your tatas? Misinformation about boobs floods the internet and the media, and it can be hard to know what info to rely on as truth. We dive into some myths and facts about breasts and set the record straight on our favourite fun-bags.
Does not wearing a bra make your boobs saggy?
Good news for all our braless gals: not wearing a bra won’t make your boobs saggy. According to Breast Health Specialist Cassann Blake, MD (someone who knows a lot more about boobs than us), not wearing a bra doesn’t cause sagging, and wearing a bra doesn’t prevent sagging.
Do lumps = breast cancer?
Feel a lump? Don’t freak out. Certain lumps and bumps are totally normal and don’t necessarily indicate anything serious. Most of the time, they’re just cysts.
But just like any changes with your body, if you do feel anything out of the ordinary, get to your doc ASAP just to be sure!
The National Breast Cancer Centre offers some detailed info about breast changes here.
Should your boobs be identical twins?
Nope! Having differently sized and shaped boobs is totally normal and absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about. It’s super common to have uneven breasts and/or nipples – in fact, more than 50% of women have asymmetrical breasts. In most women, the left boob is larger than the right. They should be cousins, not twins. This is nothing to worry about unless it’s a sudden change in size – then it’s time to see your doc.
Does coming off the pill make your boobs shrink?
Did going on the pill make your boobs grow? This is pretty common thanks to the progesterone and estrogen in the oral contraceptive pill. But this also means that coming off the pill can cause your boobs to shrink back to their ‘normal’ size. It can also make them feel extra tender for a little while – a totally normal side effect.
Can chest workouts make your boobs perkier?
Technically, no, exercise can’t directly lift your boobs. Your gals are made of fatty tissue, not muscle. But working the chest muscles that sit underneath your breast tissue can give the appearance of firmer, higher boobs. Buff pecs = perkier breasts!
Some great go-to chest exercises you can do at home include:
- Push-ups
- Overhead dumbbell press
- Standing dumbbell upright row.
Is nipple discharge normal?
While nipple discharge is normally nothing to worry about, you should consult your doctor if you notice discharge and you’re not pregnant or lactating. It’s not uncommon for women to experience nipple discharge during their reproductive years. Sexual arousal, irritation from clothing, hormone imbalances, and stress can all cause nipple discharge. Is it annoying? Yes. Is it dangerous? Not usually – but get to your doctor just in case.
